Adoption
We've received numerous inquiries from adoptive families, adoptees and supporters regarding China's recent decision to discontinue foreign adoptions. We're heartbroken for the hundreds of matched children and families who have been waiting to unite since the Chinese government suspended all adoption processing at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. For several years, we have advocated for China to resume processing adoptions, especially for the children already matched with families.
At Holt, we envision a world where every child has a loving, permanent family. Every child should have an opportunity to thrive in the devoted care of a family, and not be institutionalized in an orphanage. Today, the vast majority of children living in China’s social welfare institutes are children with special medical and developmental needs. Without the dedicated time, resources and one-on-one, nurturing care of a family, these children will struggle to reach their potential — and will face a difficult reality once they age out of orphanages in China.
We recently sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, urging him to raise to the highest levels of the Chinese government the plight of children waiting to be united with their adoptive American families.
Because we know you share our belief that every child should have a family, we humbly ask you to join us in advocating for children in China. Please contact your U.S. representative and senators today and urge them to encourage the U.S. Department of State to ask China for clarity on in-process adoptions and to resume international adoption.
This action tool on NCFA’s website will quickly allow you to send personal messages to all three Congressional offices.
Please also encourage your family and friends to contact their Senators and Representative using the above instructions!
