Meet brothers August and Alex! August is the oldest and Alex is the younger brother. These brothers have a close relationship with one another, and each told us their best friend is their brother. August has a basic understanding of adoption and told us he wants to be adopted with his brother one day.
August is described as quiet, introverted, independent and sensitive. He loves playing tag and marbles with his brother. His favorite subject is science. In the morning, before school, he likes to watch a TV drama with one of his caregivers. When he grows up, he hopes to be a police officer.
Alex is said to be kind and someone who follows instructions well. He doesn’t tell others how he is feeling, so his nannies try to pay close attention to him to understand what is going on and help him as needed. Alex’s favorite subject is his native language. With other children, he likes to play soccer, robots, tag, and hide and seek. Alex told us he is good at coloring. He has friends at both his orphanage and at his school. Alex has a favorite nanny who he says is kind. When he grows up, he wants to be a firefighter.
An ideal adoptive family for these brothers needs to understand the effects of neglect, institutionalization and prenatal exposure. They need excellent educational support to help them reach their potential. Their parents should have trauma-informed parenting skills.
