“This Gift Is Truly Noble”

Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to write letters for their sponsors in the U.S.! Here’s a letter that one teenage girl from Vietnam sent to her sponsors.

Hang is a 13-year-old girl who lives with her mother and two older sisters in Vietnam. Her father died when she was very young, leaving her mother as the primary source of income for the family. Hang’s mother works as a daily laborer and as a bricklayer at a construction company, but her income is not always stable as it depends on the amount of work available.

In February 2023, Holt sponsors began supporting Hang — providing the funds she needs to thrive in the loving care of her family. Thanks to her sponsors, Hang has the opportunity to continue her education and break free from the cycle of poverty. Most of the monthly sponsorship funds go to pay for Hang’s school fees and school supplies, and the remainder helps with the family’s living expenses.

Hang is in eighth grade now and enjoys attending school. She awakes each morning at 5:45 and goes to school from 7 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. She loves to read, as it helps to broaden her horizons, and she particularly enjoys Vietnamese literature. Hang hopes to one day continue her education at a university.

Hang is very close to her two older sisters and loves her mother deeply. She is grateful for all of her mother’s hard work in raising her children, so Hang is always willing to help with household chores and offer assistance where needed. She is also grateful for the support of her Holt sponsors in the U.S.

“My name is Hang. I would like to sincerely thank my sponsors for sponsoring me, so I can continue on my learning path. For me, this is not only a source of material encouragement, but also a great spiritual comfort to help me overcome difficulties in life. This gift is truly noble. It is a warm fire, lighting up my dreams. This scholarship will help me pay for work in study and life, helping me believe in the future ahead. I will try my best and study well so that the gifts given by sponsors have more practical meaning. Once again, I sincerely thank the sponsors.”
