Group of young boys Korea

Our partner agency in Korea took a moment to say thank you to Holt sponsors who support children in their programs. As Korea emerges from COVID lockdown, they want child sponsors to know that their support makes it possible for children to thrive!

Dear Sponsor,

It started out of love in 1955. Holt Children’s Services, Inc. (HCS) started that year by finding families for children orphaned due to the Korean War. Ever since then, HCS has worked for the social welfare and happiness of children. HCS inherited its founder’s legacy of ‘Love in Action’ and has put rigorous efforts toward welfare projects for children, youths, single parents, the disabled, low-income and multi-cultural families. Also, we have worked on improving the rights of overseas children living in poverty.

I would like to express my gratitude to the sponsors who have always walked along and been supportive of children and families through HCS. This year has been a challenging year to Holt babies and children because of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. But with your support, Holt foster families have been able to ensure children’s safety and health. In addition, your support helped Holt babies to do many fun activities this year.

First of all, we were able to have a babies’ first birthday party (“Dol” party in Korean), which we had postponed during the pandemic. The babies wore pretty, traditional costumes (“Hanboks” in Korean) and were congratulated by volunteers, foster families and Holt staffs, and took pictures at the birthday table. Second, as the risk of COVID-19 infection has been reduced and the social distance level gradually eased, we were able to start educational programs for the babies in foster care that helps them develop their brains and creativity through five-sense stimulation.

For example, they hid behind the foster mother with their eyes opened widely, looking at ladybugs, or had a fun time playing ball. During the program, children changed positively in their sensory, physical, emotional and social development day by day. Not only children, but also foster mothers showed positive changes, which resolved their parenting concerns and enabled more stable attachment and smooth communication with children.

“I was relieved to see the children emit extraordinary energy and activity while participating in this class,” one mom said. Another shared, “I realized how important it is to interact with teachers and peers of kids’ ages when I saw them smiling brightly and running around.”

Your support of the children at Holt community centers have ensured that even during these tough economic times, they continue to receive critical services. So many of these children live in difficult circumstances and these programs give them hope for a better future. The children at the Jeonju Babies’ Home also continue to flourish in a loving environment. The children not only receive care, but the staff also works with their families to eventually make it possible for the child to return home.

Thank you, child sponsors, for your consistent support for children in Korea waiting for adoption to receive proper education and make pleasant memories before they are in the arms of the adoptive family. On behalf of all staff of the Holt Children’s Services, I would like to thank you for your sincere heart.

Sincerely,

Meesoo Song
