Hi, I'm Mackencia
I'm a girl, 7 years old and live in Haiti.
Mackencia is 5 years old and is in her last year of kindergarten. She is very interested in her school. She is one of those children living in low-income families whose chance to go to school was very small. When her mother came to live in the area, finding the Fontana Foundation school was like finding a spring in the desert. Her parents' low income and her interest in learning are the reasons why we took her to the school.
At the time of her admission to the school she seemed to be in good shape. She is active and full of energy. She does not show any signs of physical or mental disability.
Mackencia's family is a low-income family that struggles like most other families to provide for the education of their children. Mackencia's parents have 3 children, she is the oldest. Her mother is forced to stay at home to take care of the two youngest, but despite having to babysit her children when poverty plagues the family she leaves the youngest in the care of the neighborhood to go out and run a small business to feed the children.
