Sophea was selected through the recommendation from his village chief. He belongs to a very poor family in the community.
Her physical and mental health was fine upon enrollment.
Sophea lives with his parents, two older sisters, and an older brother. This family lives in a small house 3x4m made of wood with zinc roof. They do not have land for growing rice. His father is a construction worker, and earns USD 7 a day. His mother and brother are hired to remove the potato, and earn USD 5 a day, but it is not regular. His sisters are garment workers in Phnom Penh; they send some money to support the family, but not much. The family lives in a difficult situation, lacking of foods, rice and money to support their children. Therefore, Sophea needs sponsorship in order to support his education.
