Recent updates from Holt-supported family strengthening and orphan care programs around the world!
Cambodia
Holt Cambodia staff attended a three-day workshop organized by Save the Children, where they presented our kinship care and foster care model. Holt was also selected to be the lead organization to coordinate the development of a concept note for foster care and permanency programming for children.
China
Holt provided 19 trainings for child welfare coordinators, who provide services to children in our family strengthening programs across various provinces in China. Holt staff also visited two orphanages where they shared about proper feeding methods with orphanage leaders, staff and caregivers.
Colombia
Children in Bambi’s Comunidad daycare program are doing gymnastics lessons and participating in important life skills activities. The children have made significant progress in their physical and social development, especially at mealtimes!
Ethiopia
Holt provided outdoor playground equipment to one preschool center in Ethiopia. In addition, a water access point was established in another school that will serve more than 1,500 preschool and elementary-aged children.
Haiti
Thirty-three mothers began Holt Haiti’s economic empowerment program training in the south of Haiti. The 22 women from the previous cohort are mentors to the new group.
India
In March, 28 children graduated into the mainstream school system from the informal school for migrant children at VCT. To help with the transition process, VCT’S child development and educational support teams visited schools close to the VCT premises and guided parents through the admission processes.
Philippines
In March, KBF called for additional support from local businesses for the Independent Living and Educational Aassistance (ILEA) program. One business donated a washing machine, water dispenser, printer, laptop, study tables, electric fans, kitchenware, household supplies, rice, and other grocery items for the ILEA’s home. All these items are needed by the young scholars.
Thailand
Over 152 children and 175 parents, teachers and volunteers attended seven trainings hosted by Holt Sahathai Foundation. They learned about farming (cultivating a love of nature), building family/community connections, self-love and care, healthy diet and more. Parents were equipped with skills to create healthy family communication to promote age-appropriate development of children.
Uganda
Holt Uganda distributed bicycles and protective gear to 150 village health workers (VHTs) in the three districts of rural Ethiopia. This will allow village health works to reach and serve an even greater number of children and families.
