Hi, I'm Diep
I'm a girl, 4 years old and live in Vietnam.
Nguyen Ngoc Diep is the only child of a single mother with mental delay. Her family is one of households living near poverty line as categorized by the government in Van Thai commune, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi, Vietnam. Her father does not provide childcare support. At this time, her grandfather is the main breadwinner of the family, providing for his wife, a 7-year-old son, an unemployed daughter and a niece. He works as a chef at Diep’s kindergarten, and deducts a portion of his salary to pay for her preschool education. However, the remaining income is sometimes insufficient to buy food for the family and pay tuition for his own son. Therefore, the family still sometimes owes the school Diep’s tuition and boarding lunch fees. Diep’s mother tries to contribute to her family by pulling weeds for hire at rate of $6 per day, but her work speed is only half of other people so just a few employers are willing to hire her.
