India
Across India, Children’s Day was a time of joy and celebration for children in Holt-supported programs. At Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra’s (BSSK) community centers in Pune, as well as Vathsalya Charitable Trust’s (VCT) child development centers in Bangalore, children participated in vibrant performances and cultural activities. From lively dances to interactive games, children expressed their creativity, built confidence and formed friendships. For children living in slum communities across India, this day of celebration was incredibly special — all because of the generosity of Holt sponsors and donors.
Recently, both BSSK and VCT paired up with local hospitals to host medical check-ups for children in Holt-supported programs. In Pune, BSSK provided blood tests and consultations with pediatricians and other specialists for over 600 children. In Bangalore, nearly 800 students received check-ups and vision screenings. Overall, 117 children were referred for follow-up care to treat health issues such as worm infestations and skin diseases. Children and families received practical guidance on hygiene, nutrition, self-care, stress management and general health practices to help them stay healthy and thrive.

Thailand
In mid-November, Thailand experienced severe climate fluctuations, leading to prolonged flooding in five southern provinces. The impact was especially felt in the impoverished communities where children and families in Holt-supported programs live. Many families were forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in evacuation centers.
But with the support of Holt donors and sponsors, our partner organization, Holt Sahathai Foundation, was able to mobilize emergency care packages, including food rations for families in need. Rice and other dried goods like powdered milk have helped revitalize children and families who were displaced by the floods.

Ethiopia
Last month, Holt Ethiopia and our partner KTZ-OVC joined forces to fight malaria in seven vulnerable communities in Ethiopia. Through a large-scale prevention campaign, local teams reached more than 35,000 families and children with environmental management strategies to reduce mosquito breeding.
Families also learned practical steps to protect themselves, from using bed nets to recognizing early malaria symptoms. These efforts are helping to safeguard children’s health and prevent the spread of a disease that remains a serious threat in many regions.

Vietnam
Late October and November brought heavy flooding to central Vietnam. High waters left families struggling to recover — including families served by the Holt-supported Kianh Foundation, a school and therapy program for children with disabilities. Already struggling with immense challenges, these families found themselves in desperate need.
Thankfully, Holt Vietnam was able to survey the areas where our families live and assess their needs after the flooding. In late October, Holt launched a fundraising campaign to help these families. And through the incredible generosity of Holt donors, 99 households received food, supplies and emergency assistance.
Holt Vietnam continues to help families in the community, providing aid and monitoring damage. Many families, including teachers at Kianh Foundation, are now in the process of rebuilding their lives, having lost their homes. Sponsor and donor support during this time of crisis ensures that children can continue in school and receive disability services through the Kianh Foundation.
