Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to thank their sponsors in the U.S. with letters and drawings. Here’s a drawing from 6-year-old Yaty in Cambodia.

Yaty lives in Cambodia with her parents, grandparents, cousin and brother. Her parents work in a factory to earn income, but they struggle to cover the family’s expenses. Yaty’s grandmother helps care for the children and grows rice.

When Yaty was old enough to start preschool, her family was worried. They couldn’t afford to send her to school.

But then, sponsors signed up to support Yaty, helping her attend school in her village!

Yaty recently completed kindergarten and will start first grade soon. She has many friends she enjoys playing with at school. She is learning math, social studies and Khmer language, which is her favorite subject. Yaty also eats breakfast at school each day and enjoys porridge and fried rice — supplementing the limited food she receives at home, thanks to her sponsors!

Yaty is soft-spoken, kind and responsible. She takes good care of her school uniform and enjoys helping her grandmother with the laundry. One of her favorite memories is watching children fly kites in the rice fields.

Every evening, Yaty and her family spend time practicing the letters and numbers she learned during the day.

To share a heartfelt “thank you” for helping her attend school, Yaty created this special drawing for her sponsors!
