Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to thank their sponsors in the U.S. with letters and drawings. Here’s a drawing from 11-year-old Kimisha in Ethiopia.

Kimisha is an 11-year-old boy who lives in Ethiopia. His father works as a day laborer in the community, and his mother sells goods at the market. Despite their hard work, their income isn’t enough to always meet Kimisha’s basic needs and support his education.
But when Kimisha was sponsored, it made all the difference. Because of his sponsors, Kimisha’s education is protected — no matter what challenges his family faces.
Today, Kimisha is active, healthy and growing well. One of his favorite meals is injera, a traditional sourdough flatbread, served with a slow-cooked stew, along with cabbage and sweet potatoes.
Kimisha is in fourth grade and loves going to school. He is earning good grades and improving each year. Kimisha enjoys playing football and marbles with his friends, and he and his cousin — his best friend — attend school together.
He and his mother share a close bond. Kimisha often shares his thoughts and feelings with her. After school, he helps with chores, including cleaning and caring for the home when she is away.
Kimisha also enjoys playing different group games with his friends in the village. One of his favorite recent memories was celebrating Christmas with other children in Holt’s Ethiopia program.
Thanks to his sponsors, Kimisha is growing up with the support he needs to pursue a brighter future.
To say “thank you” for sending him to school, Kimisha created this heartfelt drawing for his sponsors!
