Holt International Expands Support for Adolescent Mothers in Mongolia

Eugene, Ore. — May 12, 2026 — Holt International has partnered with the Princess Center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to expand critical services for adolescent mothers and their children. Since launching in January 2026, the partnership is already helping more young women access essential care, education and economic opportunities.

Single motherhood remains highly stigmatized in Mongolia, particularly for teenagers. More than 70,000 single mothers live in the country, and nearly 2,000 adolescent girls ages 15 to 19 became mothers in 2025. Many face isolation, limited education and few job prospects, especially in a country where nearly one-third of the population lives in poverty.

Through this partnership, Holt supports the Princess Center’s Young Mothers Empowerment Program, which provides essential baby supplies, postnatal care, life skills training and vocational support to help young mothers build stable, self-sufficient lives.

“The best way to ensure children grow up in safe, loving families is to empower their mothers,” said Paul Kim, Holt’s director of Korea and Mongolia programs.

The impact is already being seen in the lives of young mothers like “Tselmeg,” who recently gave birth to her first child. Through the program, she received critical supplies, psychosocial support, and assistance accessing services for her child, and will continue building skills for long-term stability.

Founded in 2003, the Princess Center is the only non-governmental organization in Mongolia dedicated to supporting adolescent mothers. Holt’s partnership expands its reach and builds on the organization’s broader work to strengthen families and prevent child separation worldwide.
