a sponsored child's drawing of a chicken

Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to thank their sponsors in the U.S. with letters and drawings. Here’s a sweet drawing from 5-year-old Nhu in Vietnam.

Nhu lives in Vietnam with her mom and two sisters. Her mother works in the rice fields to earn income, but she struggles to cover the family’s expenses. As the youngest child, Nhu was at risk of leaving school because her mother couldn’t afford the costs — especially daily school lunch.

Then a sponsor signed up to support Nhu — helping ensure she could stay in school!

Now, Nhu loves going to kindergarten every day. When she arrives at school, she hugs her teachers and runs to play on the playground. Her favorite activity is dancing lessons. Her teachers say she is empathetic, friendly and growing more confident.

Because of her sponsors, Nhu receives a school lunch each day. She now enjoys a variety of foods — rice, vegetables and soup — giving her the nutrients she needs to grow.

Nhu’s favorite color is pink and she loves to draw and color. She enjoys playing games, building with blocks and using her imagination with her dolls. Nhu loves her mom and sisters very much, and each afternoon when she gets home, she can’t wait to share all about her day.

To share a big thank-you for sending her to school, Nhu created this heartfelt drawing for her sponsors!
