Elene lives in Ethiopia with her two siblings and parents. Her parents work hard to provide for their family, but they live in poverty. And until recently, Elene never got enough to eat. She often felt tired and had a hard time focusing at school because her stomach was always empty.
That all changed when you gave Elene and her family a Gift of Hope — garden seedlings and chickens!
Elene was so excited about their new garden. She helped her family plant carrots, cabbage, tomatoes and spinach in their backyard. Every morning, she’d help her mother water the garden.
Soon the garden grew full of vegetables! Elene and her family had full plates at the dinner table — complete with eggs from their chickens. And they were able to sell their vegetables at the market, bringing in additional income for the family.
Because she’s eating regular, nutritious meals, Elene feels more energized. She’s smiling brighter and performing well in school — so much so that she’s now ranked first in her class!
