How old are the children?

The majority are 14 mos. to 18 mos. at placement.
What is the profile of children to be adopted?

Children adopted from Thailand are generally considered to be healthy and have appropriate development.  They are tested for HepB and HIV.  The children are in foster care with the exception of special needs children who can be in government orphanages.
Who can adopt from Thailand?

Couples over the age of 25; married at least 3 years. One divorce each is accepted. Single applicants are not currently being accepted into process. Families with any medical condition(s) stated in the Adoption Home Study must be pre-approved by the Thai government prior to receiving the assignment of a child.
Can we choose the gender of child?

Childless couples and families who already have a girl must be open to a child of either gender.  Families with a girl may request a boy.  Families open to either gender may be matched more quickly.
How are families selected for children?

Families are matched with children when Holt receives the child’s information from Thailand.
What kind of information is available about the children?

At time of referral the family will receive the Initial Social History, Initial Physical Examination, and usually blood test report for VDRL.  Progress reports are received quarterly with information on the child’s health and development.
What kind of medical care do children receive?

When children come into care there is a thorough medical examination and then regular checkups.  All children are tested for HepB and HIV
What kind of information do families receive during the adoption process?

Families receive quarterly progress reports and updated child photos.
How do children come into care?

The children are relinquished, usually by the birth mother.
Where do children live while they are in Thailand?

Children under the care of Holt Sahathai are all in foster homes.
Do parents travel to Thailand?

Both parents must travel to Thailand for approximately 8-12 days.  You will be fully supported by Holt Sahathai staff during the placement process.
