Special Needs Project
Meet brothers Chase and James! Chase is the older brother, born February 2009. James is the younger of the two, born March 2013. These brothers are very close. Their strong bond was evident when we met them during our Special Needs Project visit in March of 2024. Chase was very protective of his brother and helped when he could. Chase helped James go up and down the stairs and always kept an eye on him to make sure he was okay. James was receptive to his brother’s affection and attention. James had a lot of fun playing with all our assessment toys.
Chase is a very talented artist! He showed us his sketchbook full of drawings – including portraits, anime cartoons, and Dobby from Harry Potter. We were all very amazed by his very realistic drawings. He told us he used to paint at his previous childcare center. But at his new center, he doesn’t have any painting supplies. He hopes he can get some soon to start painting again! Chase is said to do well academically. He has friends and favorite caregivers that he will occasionally ask for help from and share his feelings with.
James was very excited to interact with us newcomers! He was very happy and engaged with us. He would smile wide when he enjoyed doing an activity like catching and throwing a ball. James has very little language and at one point was learning Filipino Sign Language.
An ideal adoptive family for these brothers should have parenting experience. They should be familiar with TBRI techniques to help create an environment of felt safety. They should have strong therapeutic and educational resources to help support James. Holt staff would be happy to speak to any prospective adoptive family about these sweet brothers!
