Vey's family is certified as poor. They grow rice but the rice production is not enough to feed the family throughout the year. The father moved to work in Thailand, but never sends money back home. The two older sisters left school at a young age to work in a factory in Phnom Penh. The other two sisters got married and moved to their husbands' homes. The family wants to raise pigs, but they are lacking capital and skills to raise healthy pigs.
Vey did not have any signs of health problems the day we admitted him into the program.
Vey is from a peasant family. They were referred to the program by local authorities to gain capital assistance to raise animals for selling.
