TBRI Web Training: Registration Now Open!

Increase the Connection and Nurture in Your Family! – Join our two LIVE web trainings in August

If you are like many adoptive parents who love the book The Connected Child (by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross) and TBRI ®, or Trust-Based Relational Intervention, you won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to learn and practice two of the most fun and effective family activities aimed at strengthening relationships at home. If you aren’t already a TBRI follower, it is a connection-based approach that guides parents in how to understand and respond to difficult behaviors, while building trust and emotional connection, and empowering children to make good choices. Whether you’ve been on the TBRI bandwagon for years or hadn’t heard of it until today, these engaging demonstrations will provide you with useful additions to your parenting toolbox that you can begin using right away.

“Family Nurture Group at Home”

Family Nurture Groups offer an amazingly efficient way to proactively teach and practice important life and relational skills through play …which is the best way to teach anything! Through a series of fun, simple activities, your family will work on the four key skills (Cassidy, 2001) a person needs in order to achieve healthy relationships … seeking care and receiving care, negotiating needs and achieving an autonomous self. These are skills that must be mentored and reinforced throughout a child’s life in order to be mastered. Children placed in adoptive or foster families have often missed out on years of this important mentorship. But, it is never too late! Adding nurture to your family routine will strengthen attachments, teach relational skills, and help you increase the cohesiveness and communication at home. Nurture groups can involve the whole family and be accomplished in as few as 15 minutes around the dinner table.

This is an interactive training that children are encouraged to participate in. Professionals are welcome too. Versions of nurture groups have been utilized in therapy settings, classrooms, office environments – anywhere where relationships are important. You’ll receive instructions and printables that you can access later so no note-taking is required!

Far too often, parents devote countless hours and energy to caring for their children … feeding them, clothing them, endless laundry, playdates, zipping from practices to appointments – it feels like we are nothing but 100% engaged in meeting our children’s needs. With all of these ‘to-dos’ it can be hard to pause, exhale, and take a few minutes to relax and PLAY with each of our children. The operational aspect of parenting requires so much, but it isn’t what fills us up emotionally. It isn’t meeting our children’s emotional needs either.

What they need to experience is YOU – your eyes, your smile, your attuned and undivided attention that is just for them. This an incredibly beneficial experience for the grown-ups too. Play, done the right way, can deepen attachment, decrease power struggles, and teach important life skills simply through how you engage and respond to your child during play. The keys to making play work like this for your family are learning how to let your child take the lead (sometimes harder than it sounds) and scheduling this special individual playtime into your daily routine. Reserving only 10 minutes a day for 1:1 child-led play is all it takes! Based on TBRI strategies and contributions by Cindy Lee of The HALO Project, this 60 minute training on Connect 1:1 time will include demonstrations and take-aways that will have you feeling ready and excited to GET YOUR PLAY ON!
