We recently held our second roundtable panel training event — Race/Racism & Adoptee Identity — for adoptive parents and adoption professionals in Portland, OR. The three-hour training featured a diverse panel of adult Adoptees describing the challenges of growing up a person of color in a white family. During the first half of the training, panelists discussed prearranged topics that included thoughts and feelings about birth parents, advice on bullying due to adoption and race, and the importance of hair care, while the second half was filled with questions from the audience. The event was well received and we look forward to hosting more of these trainings in the months ahead.
