Special Needs Project
Meet Sebastian! Holt staff had the joy of meeting Sebastian in person during our September 2022 Thailand Special Needs Project trip. He was shy throughout the assessment, but when we asked him to do physical activities – like jumping, walking, and throwing a ball, he came alive! He wouldn’t stop smiling. His pictures show this sweet boy’s smile!
Sebastian went on a recent field trip to the zoo. He had lots of fun on the adventure! He knows the names of the animals and was not afraid to get up close and touch them. Caregivers say he even touched a spider the zoo was allowing children to pet while he was there!
His caregivers describe him as happy, easy-going, independent, and shy. His favorite toys include Legos, puzzles, and toy cars. He also enjoys being creative and making his own things. Sebastian is said to seek out the approval of his caregivers. He enjoys receiving praise and thrives with 1-on-1 attention. He has 3 best friends that he enjoys spending time with. When he is upset, he can be comforted with a hug from his caregiver.
An ideal adoptive family for Sebastian should be open to unknowns, familiar with ADHD, and be flexible with educational support. He would likely do well with siblings. Sebastian’s family should understand the effects of trauma, institutionalization, and grief/loss in children. The family needs to utilize TBRI strategies so to create an environment of felt safety for Sebastian to reach his potential.
