Jaylenn is an adorable little boy born at 37 weeks on October 8, 2011, weighing in at 5.29 pounds. According to his last Well Baby Check, May 2016, he weighs 35 lbs and is 40 inches tall. During Jaylenn's January 2013 well baby examination, it was apparent that he was uncomfortable moving his left hand. A neurology consult was immediately recommended. An MRI revealed Jaylenn has Rt. Pachygyria, a congenital malformation of the cerebral hemisphere. Due to this condition, he has difficulty keeping his balance when he is walking quickly and has a slight gait. He has weaker strength in his left hand, but it doesn't keep him from picking up toys and playing. Jaylenn is currently receiving physical and speech therapy twice a week. It was also disclosed that his birth mother smoked up to 10 cigarettes per day while pregnant and also drank 1-2 bottles of soju per week. Jaylenn can walk alone, jump, go down stairs, grasp objects, put blocks in cups, and remove his socks with his right hand. He waves bye-bye, imitates activities, and plays ball. He was transferred to Ilsan Center in January 2015 due to greater medial resources. Jaylenn has experienced several losses in his life - including his birth family and the caregivers he was initially placed with. Given his multiple losses, the right family for Jaylenn will be patient, persistent and willing to access the resources needed to ensure a secure attachment. His family should also be comfortable with the unknowns regarding his brain anomaly and developmental delay and be able to provide him with any medical care or therapies he may need.
