SPOON and Holt to Launch 4-Year Nutrition Program
After successful pilot projects in Haiti and India, Holt is excited to announce that our collaboration with the Portland-based SPOON Foundation will continue as together we launch a 4-year nutrition program in Holt’s overseas programs — beginning in China, and ultimately expanding to programs in four more countries. The nutrition program will serve Holt’s mission by researching the major causes of malnutrition in orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children; educating caregivers on how to track and detect malnutrition; and combating outdated feeding practices. SPOON Foundation’s nutrition scientist, Zeina Makhoul, PhD, says the early results have been promising. “It has been amazing to see the difference our efforts have already made in India,” she says. “Not only in the lives of the children we are directly serving, but through the staff who care for the children.” The expansion of this program is funded through a generous grant from a private foundation.

Calling All Campers
We are dusting off the bunks and practicing our fire-building skills, because another fun and exciting summer of camps is coming fast. Registration for Holt’s five camps is open! We welcome adoptees, ages 9-16, to sign up for a week of games, activities and self-discovery. Our camps are especially tailored for campers to share their common experiences while exploring issues of adoption, race, identity and development … all while having a blast!
