Directive From the Department of Justice Regarding Fingerprint Checks
The U.S. Department of Justice issued a clarification today regarding a requirement that prospective adoptive families obtain new fingerprint checks before traveling abroad to receive their children. The current check was required in order for the families to obtain a U.S. visa for their adoptive children.
The statement, issued March 19, indicates that for families who depart the United States on or before May 31, 2003, that requirement may be waived, and these families will be able to obtain visas for their children.
