one eyed Peek A Boo

Postby Michele H » Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:12 am

Elisha is 2 and a half and has been home since last fall. We are enjoying him immensely! He was on the WC because of his having a "small eye" and is blind in that eye. He wears a prosthetic shell over the small eye which looks very "real".

He loves playing games, "Hide-Seek"...where he hides behind the washer--every time, "Duck-Goose"...where he runs all over the house with someone chasing him, and "Peek-Boo" where he covers his good eye and we all laugh because it just looks so funny not covering both eyes!

Our first 4 kids range in ages from 14-9, then Elisha at 2...so he's picked up the teen and preteen attitude and terminology... as in "Mom, I need a drink of water, DUH."..."Mom, don't kill me!" (cause I threw a blanket on his head  )...and throwing a fit when he got woken up from a nap then suddenly stopping his crying putting a huge smile on his face and exclaiming..."Yisha not tired! I happy!"

Everyday, I am so thankful for our little guy. We tell him that his prosthetic eye was his ticket home, and that's what he calls it too. We had too many children to adopt a "healthy" child from India, Elisha would not have been allowed to be adopted by an American family without it and his BM probably would not have relinquished him otherwise. It's so cool when God takes something bad and turns it into something Really Really Good.

And I'm feeling a bit nostalgic because about 2 years ago this month, I was getting on the WC to check his profile everyday to see if someone had decided to adopt him. We weren't planning on starting another adoption "quite yet" but we saw his profile and hoped India would consider us for him...and now he's home with us...somedays God just overwhelms me with how good He is.
Michele...mom of 6 terrific kids...and my surprise baby (at age 49) is Micah Nagaraj at VCT...he just turned 2 yo and we just sent the dossier to India...so our 7-12 mo countdown begins... "I am such a happy momma"

Thanks for sharing your story, Michele. God is truly awesome, and Elisha is absolutely precious! My husband and I are just starting the Indian adoption process (we finally meet the minimum marriage requirements) and I have been monitoring the boards for the past two years. I am so thankful for you and others who share your stories so that the rest of us can know what to expect, glean tons of helpful information, and be encouraged by sharing in your happy times as we wait.

Elisha is adorable! My oldest dd and my son both wear prosthetic shells. My son refers to his as his "Super Power Eye" but don't tell anyone as it is supposed to be a secret that the dr gave him such a special one.
