I just had to say I finally got completely F.E.D. U.P. with my cluttered house. I think I've written here before, my house is small and has limited closet space. Junk, papers (esp. junk mail and school papers) and just a variety of things that accumulate over time (everything from kids' trinkets to old clothes that don't even fit, small appliances and much, much more...) finally put me over the edge. I'm not a good housekeeper, perhaps that goes without saying!!
But, I've spent 5 of the last 7 days PURGING my world. My DH has done as much as or more than me, and the kids helped too. I think we are up to 8 trips to Goodwill with the van loaded. And a shameful amount of trash finally taken out of here (not to Goodwill!)....as in, I'm the person who would let a small room gradually fill with stacks of papers I intend to shred but let it go too long and then it seemed overwhelming.
Some days we worked almost without a break. Still a little more to do, but man, I feel like my voice echoes in here now! And it turns out I DO have enough closet space to accommodate everything I need and most of what I wanted to keep.
Rewards = 1) Feeling of freedom for me and my family and a place to relax 2) A cleaning person 1-2x/month to help me keep up the actual cleaning, but even more for the motivation to not let clutter accumulate!
Barbara - I was thinking of you and your de-cluttering efforts you've posted about. Seems like whenever you posted it kind of nudged me one step closer to this point, so THANKS!!
Anyone else out there who feels overwhelmed....just do it. You can't imagine the peace and sense of accomplishment you will feel.
