journey's end with India

Postby Terry in OR » Thu May 17, 2012 3:38 am

Hi all,

Just wanted to give everyone an update. We've had quite a roller coaster couple years trying to adopt from India for the third time. We thought we had found our little number three and had begun persuing her, then she became unavailable about a year ago. Then another, and another and another, etc. little one until a few months ago. At that point, I turned 50 and with the changes taking place in India our agency reminded me that adoption fees cover services, not actually receiving a child. I realized at that point we were likely supposed to take a different direction. I have been looking through other programs since and exploring all the options open to my family. I think I have found where we will be going and will post when I know for sure. In the meantime, I will still be lurking around and trying to help all whom I can.

Blessings to you all!

I will be looking forward to hearing what new direction you'll be taking. :)
BTW, I'm a fellow Oregonian at heart. Even though I'm living in Alaska presently. I miss those beautiful Oregon summers.

First of all, best wishes for whatever direction you are taking.

Could you clarify what you mentioned in your post? Do you mean there is additional fee for the court processing that Holt does not handle?

Thank you everyone for your support! I'm still in discernment and probably will be for a while.

--> Wonderfulworld: When I went through Holt the fees were all included and I would imagine that still holds true. I was not going through Holt for this latest adoption but a different agency. What I meant was, if the agency in India, CARA,or the courts had denied my adoption, then I would have had to pay all over again for adopting a different child either from a differnt agency, the same agency, or a different country. In other words, one pays for a homestudy for a certain country. If that hs has to be rewritten for a different country, then an additional fee will be inccured for the additional work; or if one goes to court for child A and the court says no, then you have to pay for the process to go to court for child B because you're paying for the court costs and services.Hope that clairifies things rather than muddying them!

Hope all is going well with everyone's adoptions!
