Anyone heard about a new Holt WC list?

Postby Amelia's Mama » Thu Aug 03, 2006 9:16 am

It was my understanding that available China WC are now coming in smaller groups and not just one big batch. That being said, has anyone heard recently (as in the past two weeks) regarding a new China WC group through Holt???? We are waiting on pins and needles in hopes of finding a match but haven't heard anything about a new list... I know most of the WC are referred to Holt families prior to making it on the Holt photolisting...

If you hear anything from your SW about a new group of children looking for their forever families, please let us all know.

Many thanks.

Contact Abbie Smith for the latest update. A couple of weeks ago she told me was that the children are coming in a few at a time now instead of a large group. There have been a couple new boys added to the photolisting recently, but others that have come in have all been referred to families before making it to the photolisting. The best advice that I've heard from a couple of local families who just adopted kids from the WC China program is to make sure that the China program itself is aware of your medical conditions checklist pending with the WC program.

Good luck!

Yes, referrals are coming in a little differently. We were just matched with our son on July 20th. We did not go through committee. As we had done 4 years ago with our daughter, we told Holt Oregon that we wanted to be matched like the NSN Program. Beth Smith called us with the referral for David and explained there are some differences between 4 years ago and today. Holt receives permission to work with some children exclusively, like David, and some who will also be referred to other agencies in addition to Holt.
For both of our adoptions, we communicated often with Holt Oregon even though we live in NJ which is a Holt Branch State. We have been very pleased with our SW and the staff in Trenton but talking with Oregon gives parents the opportunity to express their abilities, desires, strengths and weaknesses right to the people that make it all happen.
Good luck,
Dave

I second calling the WC program in OR. We were in the China well program last year, but had indicated to OR that we were open to some specific special needs. We got a call about our son 3 mos. after being DTC. We were called BEFORE he made it to the photolisting.

I'm glad they called us first  !! I don't think he would have had to wait long for a family if he had been on the photolisting!!

Lynne,
I did call them a FEW times and ask when the next group was coming in. Chances are they will call you if they have a child they think is a good match for you like they did us. I KNOW how you feel. I remember how I was right before our match.

Hope you hear something soon....

My husband and I received our referral with the last small group of children that Holt got, which was on July 17th. We were completely caught by surprise because we didn't know that the kids were coming in smaller groups more frequently. Holt called us directly, so no committee. I also recommend calling and talking to Beth or Kate about the SN you would consider. My husband and I filled out the paper and faxed it to them in May and I then called Kate about 1 week later and talked to her a bit about everything. We then received our referral on July 17th!!!! When we received our referral Beth said she remembered talking to me and she thought that our daughter would be a great fit in our family.

Take Care,
Angel
