A Wonderful Way to Build your Family…
China’s Standard Process for Children Without Special Needs

During the first wave of China adoption, eligible families were often quickly matched with healthy, infant girls. Since then, the needs of orphaned and abandoned children in China have changed.  As China’s economy has significantly improved, many more families are able to adopt children domestically. Between 2005 and 2007, China also experienced a massive influx of applications to adopt internationally, creating a backlog of families waiting in the standard process. As a result, many more children with special needs are joining families in the U.S., while the timeframe to adopt an infant girl with no known health conditions is now approximately 5+ years from application to placement.

While the timeframe has lengthened – and will likely continue to lengthen – the process itself remains smooth and predictable.

Who are the children in the standard process?
Healthy girls, 8-36 months at time of placement.

Am I eligible?
Couples ages 30-50 at time of dossier login (49 at application) are eligible to adopt a child with no known health conditions. Families must fully meet China’s general eligibility requirements.

How do I apply?
After reviewing the eligibility requirements for China, complete an online application with application fee. Once received, your application will be reviewed by Holt’s intake department and transferred to the China program staff. The process takes 3-4 business days.
