From your Heart
to your Home
To have a child you can love and nurture
To share life and belonging together as a family
To marvel as your own child grows and responds to your affection.
Having a child by international adoption is a wonderful way of fulfilling your dream of a family. And if your adopted child comes from China, Haiti, India, the Korea or some other country’s well, that’s an extra special blessing that will expand the boundaries and enrich the dimensions of your family.
Holt's Basic Requiremnts
1. Age: Applicants must be at least 25 years old.
2. Citizenship: At least one parent must be a U.S. citizen (CIS requirement).
3. Residence: Both parents must be U.S. residents, throughout the
adoption process. (For families serving on U.S. military bases overseas, some exceptions may apply.)
4. Adoptive parents must satisfy requirements of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS), including income requirements.
5. Requirements and recommendations of the homestudy agency will be honored by Holt.
6. Holt prefers that adoptive families be open to a child of either gender.
7. Adoptive parents are encouraged to have reasonable childcare plans. Children coming from overseas have
experienced at least two losses of
caring persons and transitions in
cultural patterns. Constancy and
consistency are essential for a child
adapting to your family. Holt expects
at least one parent to care for the child full-time for the first several weeks. This will make possible the one-on-one quality time that helps the child bond with parents quickly and develop a sense of security.
8. At least one year should separate the
arrival of children into the family. We
believe it is very important to allow
time to adjust after the addition of
each new child or sibling group.
• Holt does not place unrelated
children with one family at the
same time.
• Pregnancy will result in the
termination of your adoption
process even if you have been
assigned a child.
